2018 Draft Preview: Interior Offensive Line

Current State

  • I really have to give the Packers staff credit for the patience and development of Lane Taylor. He’s turned into one of the value glue guys that you build around. I love where they are with him.
  • Corey Linsley has plugged in and also been solid. I like what they have him.
  • I assume that McCray would be the starting RG at this point. He’s ok, but I’d really like to see this position get upgraded. I think old man Jahri would do a better job, but I think it’s time to bring in some talent here.
  • The Packers still have Lucas Patrick and Kofi Amichia. Perhaps these guys can be developed still. Amichia was a project, and perhaps they can do with him what they did with Lane Taylor. Still, I’d like to see more guys brough in here.

Draft Outlook

With as weak as Tackles seem this year, the interior lineman are STACKED in this year’s draft. Starting with the near flawless Quenton Nelson, there is also Isaiah Wynn and the mauler Will Hernandez. Nelson should be gone by #14, and Wynn and Hernandez will both be gone by the 2nd.

The Packers sounded interested in Braden Smith, but I don’t think I’d be comfortable him until the 3rd or 4th round. He will probably be gone by then.

There are also 5(!) guys that I like that can play center/guard. James Daniels, Billy Price, Frank Ragnow, Austin Corbett and Mason Cole. Because interior line is not a valued position, I still have a hard time with anything before the 3rd round.
