How The Packers Free Agency Moves Impact Their Approach To The Draft

Before free agency started, the Packers had pretty clear needs at Edge Rusher, Guard, and Safety.

Once free agency hit, the Packers quickly announced in rapid success that they had signed a Safety, a Guard, and two Edge Rushers.

So now what are their needs?

More good players.

The best teams don’t reach for need when they draft – they look for the best value they can get with each selection. Now that they have patched their biggest needs, it should be a lot easier to stay true to their board.

On offense, the Packers have Rodgers, Adams, Jones, and Bakhtiari to as foundational difference-makers. The defense has Kenny Clark and Jaire Alexander.

These are great pillars to build around. With a free agency class that has patched the major holes in the starting lineup, the Packer have a lot of freedom.

With the exception of Quarterback and Left Tackle (which are both light in this draft class), the team can take a player at pretty much any position and plug them in as an immediate upgrade.

We all have guys we want to get, but really, whoever they target in early rounds is a good bet to upgrade a starting position. With 3 of the top 44 picks, this is an exciting year and could launch the final phase of Aaron Rodgers’s career.
